Contributors to the Program
Our goal is to provide free week long sailing camps to youths, ages 8-17. This requires support of two types- volunteers to physically help with the camps and financial support from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
VOLUNTEERS
During the 2024 summer sailing camp program, a total of 10 volunteers contributed over 400 hours of their time to the camps. In only one exceeption, all the volunteers were experienced sailors.
An effort is currently underway to partner with the LSU Center for Community Education. Learning & Leardership as a means to attract LSU students to volunteer to assist with the summer camps.
CORPORATE GIVING
To date, the Program has not launched a concerted effort to solicit financial support from local and regional corporations.
The Program was pleased to receive donations of $2000 and $2500, respectively in 2024 and 2025, from the JJL&W Insurance Consulting Firm. The firm assists companies with their “insurance processes and procedures including compliance, payroll, benefits administration systems, and more.”
FOUNDATION GRANTS
In 2024, the Program was fortunate to receive a $6500 grant from The Boo Grigsby Foundation that provided funds to underwrite the cost of a number of the program’s capital and infrastructure needs.
The Boo Grigsby Foundation was established in 2007 by Lane Grigsby of Cajun Industries, LLC, to provide support to charitable organization that serve the communities of Baton Rouge and the State of Louisiana, as well as national organizations.
OTHER SOURCES
In 2025, the Program received a $2500 contribution from The Hank Saurage Fund of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation.
All individual and corporate contributors are provided with a letter of appreciation that contains all the necessary information required by the Internal Revenue Service for tax purposes. As noted elsewhere, the Louis J. Thibodeaux Youth Sailing Program is a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit corporation.
